Hugely excited about the launch of my (soon to be published) new book A Girls Guide To Decorating as having been asked many times over the years how to turn a space into a fabulous glamorous pad I have now been given the opportunity to convey in words just that.
It was a big old conundrum whittling down the number of pads to shoot but having done so now have a collection of some of the most inspiring places around –each uniquely different. We shuttled between London and New York and now have a tome that is jam-packed with cool ideas, practical advice and wonderful tips all super easy to achieve without spending loads of money. Its out in May so patience as my mother often says to me is a virtue!
So excited for you! I know it’s going to be gorgeous. Yes, you’re mum’s right, patience is a virtue. GREAT title!
i’m a little late to the party, but thrilled to have received the book — sure to become my bible of sorts. First off, though, I will use it as ammo for meeting the landlord to show him how stunning Down Pipe can be!
Which brings me to my only criticism of the book after a quick glance through — no colour names! You have such a brilliant grasp of colours that it seems a pity you haven’t included that (when you’ve known)… Someone might not use the exact colour, but will at least have a starting point, ‘I want something that looks like…’ rather than merely pointing to a picture in a book (especially as most colours change, depending on the lighting).
Truly, if you come out with another book, it would be a shame not to share your passion.
Thank you and also for the comments always good to take on board. There is actually a reason for not mentioning specifics when you publish a book you always have to remember it will be (hopefully) as mine has translated into many different languages. Therefore the paint we buy here you can’t necessarily get hold of in other countries so its important to keep things as generic as possible.
Yes. That makes sense… I was being selfish, mea culpa!
I am enjoying the book but keep on getting yelled at by my boyfriend as I haven’t finalised all the paint decisions… It is frustrating and fascinating how the colours change depending on where you are, exposure, time of day, lighting, etc.
For instance, my mother chose Hardwick White and Elephant’s Breath when I expressed interest in a grey. She’s in sunny California and my place is up in Belgium. Hardwick White comes off all greeny sage and I’ve yet to get a sample pot of Elephant’s Breath (they’re out) and fear it may come out as putrid as Mouse’s Back…
And don’t get me started on the whites! Almost every one of them turns a sickly shade of yellow… sigh. So I guess I really do understand you being generic… People can take your book and show the paint shop the tone/colour they want and take it from there. Very smart!
The book looks so beautiful! I cannot wait until my copy arrives!
