Final Details

Accessories are easy to replace which means that you can afford to have a bit of fun with them. So whether it’s with quick to arrange cushions, new bedding or rugs or even a speedy update of door handles follow in the footsteps of the fashion-forward and introduce oversized elements in your design. It won’t necessary work in all situations – its very much about experimenting.  But your home will have a heightened sense of drama and become even more exciting as a result.

Below is my pad  – a supersized porcelain chandelier sits over a small table and accessories get changed around depending on the season. A large rasta floor cushion skims the floor (so in love with it am I that even in summer it  stays put) . Other cushions come and go and the rug gets lifted to let the summer light bounce and reflect off the floor boards.

  1. What is on the wall behind the sofa. Paper shakes? And the light fixture looks interesting, but can’t see it fully. Love your style mix and yes, I agree, changing accessories is the easiest way to update seasonally.

    • Its a bit confusing this image I admit – what you are actually seeing is a light in the foreground which is made up of zillions of porcelain tiles! And thank you for your kind words.

  2. do you mind telling me what the charcoal grey paint color you use is? you have a beautiful color sense. i am considering painting my children’s bedrooms with the charcoal color. they are young (3 & 8yrs old). i have many bright colors (oranges, pea green) that i am planning on for their rooms and the floor is a dusty blue resin. i know a charcoal grey color is unconventional for a children’s room but you have inspired me. let me know if you think this is a crazy idea. i am just entranced by your use of color.

    • The paint in question is called down pipe and its by Farrow & Ball. I think it would be brilliant because when you put all your children’s bright colours against it (kids paintings, toys etc – they will literally zing out at you). And yes its a little unconvential but my mantra is break all the boring rules and make new ones! Best of luck with it – lucky children.
