Decorating with tiles

I need a back splash in my kitchen. For years I just painted behind the back of the sink but it looks shoddy and splashed in no time and its been on my to do list for yonks. Next week I am taking a few days off work to revamp my pad and do all those little bits and pieces around the place that have been on my mind for ages – first on the list is a back splash. So for a while I have been searching for some fab tiles and by god I think I have found them.

Delicate yet strong tiles can completely transform  back splashes, bathrooms and little nooks from something bland to something sublime. As you probably no I am a strong beliver that to turn your pad from crash to flash you don’t have to have a bottomless wallet. A slap of some great paint a fabulous back splash with some beautiful rich lustrous tiles adds oodles of glamour. The tiles below have a beautiful pearlescent finish which the light bounces off – they feel antique yet also modern. Perfect so perfect for my kitchen -  a visual tantalising feast for the eyes.

    Hi Abigail
I would love to know where these tiles are from as I have very similar cuttings and can’t find them. Similar(ish) to Ilse Crawfords apartment, but a little larger, so less grout – whit is a good thing. Let me know if you are happy to.

I really like the irregularity of the tiles… I’ve seen some people add cute trays behind the sink when they have a painted backsplash (and unfortunately this is the only option some of us renters have!)

Love the tiles but couldn’t find them in HK. Struggling with whether to make my kitchen black or charcoal grey. All people are telling me not to! Saying that it is out or just too gloomy or less appealing if I am going to sell my apartment one day. What do you think? How to enliven the kitchen if I go dark with the cabinet and the wall?

My advice don’t listen – I would go dark anytime over a beige haze of blandness and either grey or black will look beautiful. You just need to punctuate the space with some bright bursts of colour whether thats through some fab lights on counters, vases containing seasonal blooms or heaps of recipe books. Kelly Wearstler painted her kitchen once black if you google image it you will see how fabulous it can look. When you go out of people’s comfort zone their first reaction is often times to dismiss. Don’t listen x

Yes, I adore Kelly’s black kitchen. Really want to mimic something like this! Love the antique yet modern, sexy yet cool feel of it. With your reassurance, will go ahead with the idea with my small kitchen.
