Wall Decor

I am sticking to  my most recent campaign  (adding personality to walls) if you don’t mind  for one more day only, as very recently we received through the post the most beautifully shot images of my sister’s pad which pretty much encapsulates everyting I was banging on about yesterday. Many of us seem to come to a stand still when it comes to wall décor, we paint the walls,  redo the kitchen, buy a ton of soft furnishings and for some reason or other ignore our walls. And yet putting stuff onto walls is what adds the personality the wow factor all of which is illustrated below.

One supersized picture on an inky grey wall is pretty much all you need.

Gem and Russ’s hallway is like walking into the most beautiful gallery – you want to linger, take in the artwork and just hang out. The wallpaper as mentioned yesterday simply hangs from two bulldog clips.

Shelves are just as fabulous as art – these ones from Ikea have been boxed out in MDF and the painted the same hue as the walls so they seem super gallery esq.

The odd fab letter and a picture is pretty much all you need to add some zest to your walls.

Clocks and  bikes are also a pretty fab way of adding personality you don’t just have to stick to art. Thats me done campaign over – happy weekend everyone.

  2. Thanks a bunch for posting these pics of Gemma’s place. I was hoping you would as I liked the sound of hanging some stunning wallpaper by bulldog clips,as you mentioned previously – I love the bookcase wallpaper and would like to do something similar in my place but was wondering where to hang it, so this idea is a great one to try!!! I must confess that my hallway is painted white with a matt gold wall featuring a collection of 1940′s mirrors and lots of art work. Gem’s place looks amazing – she should open it up for viewings!!!!! As always, your inspiration shines through. Have a great weekend too.

  3. Hi Abigail

It obviously runs in the family, it looks stunning and is featured in a Dutch mag do you happen to know which one it is, as my other half is Dutch and could get it for me as he travels there weekly.
I have recently completely gone over to the dark side as I live in a basement and white which used to be my staple seemed so cold and frankly dull. I painted my sitting room Squid Ink but I found it way too green (I e mailed you half way through in a panic) so I am now pondering Farrow and Balls Plummet it’s a new colour and a lovely neutral mid grey if you haven’t cast your eyes upon it yet….. My bedroom is Antimony a lovely Fired Earth grey. I love grey it seems.

Anyway thanks for the inspiration, I love your blog, it is my daily guilty pleasure. My other half is fearful of what I might paint next…….

    • Sorry for the late reply the magazine in question is Vtwonen Feb issue. Also haven’t tried the new F&B paint colour just seen a swatch and it looks lovely. Also http://www.ressource-decoration.com do the most fabulous grey – its like eye shadow with the most subtle lilacish undertones. You can’t see it on there website and its not easy to get it sent but its called LAVE and the fabulous store Merci in Paris have painted their cafe and bookshop in it. If you google image it you will see the colour although its way better to see it in person. I am actually painting out my downpipe and replacing with this so obsessed am I.

  4. Absolutely adore all these wonderful photos full of so many ideas. With quite a few walls to paint I am torn between dark red or grey/blue/black . . . the black floorboards look fantastic! Dizzy with inspiration! Thank you and have fun!

  5. Hi Abigail

I thought it might be VT Wonen it’s a very nice mag thanks. Thank you too for the link to Merci what a beautiful shop with a superb concept! That grey of the book shelves is stunningly divine, it’s actually not dissimilar to Plummet (but hard to tell )it’s also slightly lilacy….. what are you painting? (Reassuring to know I am not the only obsessive painter of mainly grey things)!

    • It is a beautiful magazine indeed – thinking of subscribing – as for painting the lower ground floor – a rather epic job but worth it hopefully.
