Venice meets New York

I thought we would start the week off being inspired by Julian Schnabel Palazzo in Greenwich Village. Venetian in style its an incredibly beautiful building with a pretty mesmerising interior. I adore Schnabel’s interiors from the Gramercy Park Hotel in NY  right through to his own pad. Its the mix that is so tantalising old fashioned luxury is shot through with the odd bit of rustic, vague Spanish reference make an apperance as does the odd bit of kitsch.

Its crazy and yet it works, there is a sense of the past and yet you can’t quite place it, colours abound bouncing off of each other tantalising the eye. It feels homely and yet there is a rock n roll  vibe going on . It’s a total  inspiration in individuality – whilst it may not be everyone’s cup of tea who wants a home that looks similar to everybody else’s – eccentric and unorthodox is the way to go. Happy Monday.

Its crazy, its beautiful and it works.

Comfort rules with the big loungy sofa’s – heavenly.

This has pretty much left me BREATHLESS! I braced myself for the interior shots coz I was so besotted with that exterior/building scene. Totally surreal and i want it! Thanks AA xx

That decorative wardrobe in bedroom looks like a beautiful, old tea caddy, and the whole room looks ‘dollshousey’ especially with that high stud and gigantic picture above. AMAZING! oxo

  3. Thank you so much for this! It was a stunning reminder of the beauty I encountered during my study abroad in Venice 2 1/2 years ago. This style is so perfectly complicated. I wish there were more pictures!!

I have been reading your blog everyday for the past year and this is the first time I have to disagree. Morbid, violent, unfriendly, museum like, unlived in. Sorry sorry sorry, but it’s amazing how your heart can soar at the meer mention of a pretty rug and you can be overcome with oppression and gloom when the soul of a place doesn’t work for you. I can see what you mean by the artistic composition, but my heart says runaway. This is the point though, a beautiful room can make you feel like you’re a better person, or like you are being really naughty or cheeky or just plain old happy.
