Which tribe do you belong to?

Style Magazine in the Sunday Times this weekend had a fabulous article on being a Decorexic – you know your one if your love for fashion has been super seeded by your passion for interiors. Whereby your heart rate doesn’t increase at the thought of a Selfridges sale it quickens at the thought of trudging around a flea market, or a visit to Farrow & Ball to discover the latest range of colours. When Elle Dec and Livingetc pop through the door once a month (for me add on Vogue Living, Instide Out, Italian Elle Dec, Wallpaper, Grazia Casa, Dwell, American Elle Dec etc) and you can’t wait until the end of the day to light a fire sip a glass of wine and flick through.

In the feature Pip McCormac broke the interiors obsession into four tribes; The Quirky Collector, The Modern Minimalist, The Country Casual and The Cosy Comforter so which one are you? Very sweetly Pip mentioned that if you happened to fall into the quirky collector tribe then you will be worshipping at my altar! How exciting thank you Pip I adore  all things quirky not because they are quirky mind but because  a funked up in your face glam idiosyncratic, bold, blingy interior is way more interesting that an understated biege haze of graciousness. So I am going to ignore if I may the other categories and ask that if you happen to fall into the other three please consider changing allegiance!

What makes an interior quirky – easy peasy – unexpected gestures, mixing up the styles, playing around with a dizzyingly colourful array of hues, adding wild patterns and a mish mash of textures. Be brave, be fearless  be mischievous  and be glamourous.

Quirky quirky quirky – nothing matches in either image and yet it all makes perfect sense.

  1. I love your quirky collector Abigail, but I have to say I find the word decorexic just wrong, in more ways than one! How about decoholic instead? :-)

  2. I’m a half-breed of Quirky Collector and Cosy Comforter. Eclectic all the way, love lots of texture, and put comfort above all else. I love to collect pieces that seem to tell a story… nothing new out-of-the-box or matchy-matchy for me!

Decoholic is a good word :)

  4. I love these images andI definitely belong in your camp. I saw the article in the Sunday Times and was pleased to see you credited. My feeling of wellbeing also rises when Livingetc and Elle Dec arrive on the doormat – I should maybe susbscribe to the others you list!!!

  5. Hmm.. I feel as if I may belong to a lost fifth tribe, The Minimal Collector. Quirky or not, I love your overall sense of scale and proportion and your fun use of color. To me, “Decorexic” has a very unflattering ring to it, but that may be because of my American preferences.

  6. Homesick and missing the Sunday Times but Selby (theselby.com) always cheers me up with wonderful decmess. Here’s to the quirky collectors, who, as far as I am concerned, are way beyond categorisation. Not following trends but making them! BTW does anyone think Kelly Hoppen is truly happy . . . .?

  7. I missed the article but would say I’m in the quirky camp too, and definitely a self-confessed decaholic as I seem to think about it 24/7!

  8. Well I truly enjoy reading your blog daily (it delightfully comes to my inbox!). But honestly… “super seeded”?? Really?

The correct term is “supersede”. There is no amazing gardening going on here… ;)

Also, your (non)use of commas is making me sad. They are super useful and make your posts so much easier to read.

    Still, I adore you!

    • Thank you for the correction. I should say its amazing this blog gets written at all with my
schedule. It gets composed on the hoof walking along, in the car, waiting for meetings, so consequently rarely grammatically checked or read over for spelling mistakes. You will have to forgive the odd mistake I hate to say as with so few available minutes in each day I simply don’t have the time for checking much.
