Relaxed, laid back and elegant is how I would describe Australian interiors and they are a great inspiration. I adore all Australian magazines and love seeing the mix of classic pieces with quirky casual numbers in many of the homes that are featured. The colour palette often times reflects the landscape; wood, water, sand, sea and sky. I recently discovered the homeware brand Aura http://www.aurahome.com.au and I have to say their bed linen is beautiful. Some images below – incorporating such beautiful colourways as moss, olive, a bruised sky grey, peacock and jade. If nothing else its a fabulous reference in how to introduce colour whether that’s zingy petrol blue or a softer hue into any scheme. Colour is clever it uplifts, it relaxes, it energises personally I advise overdosing on it.

These pics are like a contemporary version of a Vermeer painting -I feel like I can reach out and feel the textures, and just love those gorgeous colours. Really like the natural, uncontrived looking styling too. Love the ‘bruised sky grey’! Hope you are feeling a lot better today A, or has the pain really set in? xx
Thank you Jen – holding on in there with the pain and popping pain killers like no tomorrow
Hi Abigail!
Speaking of inspiring color palettes – would you share the awesome blue/gray paint color that’s in your store? Your artwork and furnishings are set off so beautifully against that backdrop!
Love it!
Hi Laura,
The paint colour is the store is actually a taupe, clayish colour not bluey grey at all and its called London Clay. Maybe you’ve seen the blueish grey in my house which is Down Pipe both by Farrow & Ball x
Thanks so much! It was your house color I was looking for – I thought it was, but then second-guessed myself and thought store. Your whole house (that I’ve seen) is just gorgeous! My mom is coming to London this summer (from the US) and I’m so hoping for a dog lamp!!
