A constantly evolving home

Please forgive the lack of posts the last few days schedule got a little crazy to say the least. Also thank you to design sponge for featuring my pad apparently one of their very best loved homes featured in sneak peaks so that was exciting to see. Talking of which my pad continually changes and its morphed from this as seen on design sponge:

Understated, elegant but nothing to make your heart skip a beat – to this (excuse my poor photography by the way)…

A multi layered library full to the brim with finds . I added plaster mantle pieces,  rugs, mirrors, oodles of  flowers and a whole ton of accessories. Rooms should never remain static they should grow with you and reflect who you are. In the early days of my career I didn’t have the confidence I do now to play around, push boundaries and flirt with going over the edge.  I wonder why not but I guess that comes with age and being comfortable with who you are and not giving a darn about what others think. The most engaging interiors in my mind have no straight paths meaning you can’t walk in a straight line from end of the room to the other. You have to chart your own course as you would if say you were taking a stroll through the forest.  Paths are never straight instead they are curved or arched, you can wander this way or not and consciously or not your senses are activated. This is what makes for an interesting interior,    turning something ordinary into something extraordinary.

Happy decorating x

  1. What I really need to be able to do this (allow my home to evolve properly, I mean) is develop the confidence to reject CLUTTER and all its empty promises! I wish I had a) better storage and b) the ability to throw EVERYTHING out as I go. Until then…

    Hi Abigail,
I love your work and just discovered your blog. I just moved back to London after many years living in the US and have moved to Islington, quite near your shop. I’m a decorator and stylist and I just love your style. This is a great post. My house is literally never the same for more than a few weeks (or even days). Thanks.

Farrow & Ball yes, but plummett or down pipe? or both? is it the more glossy version? and what about the inky blue in your sister’s home kitchen? thanks for getting back to me as I am still waiting to get your book which I ordered a few days ago.. can’t wait to transform my only 62sq flat in Athens! thank’s Abigail! you are so great!!

Thank you. The paint is downpipe – estate emulsion for the walls and eggshell for the floors. The blue paint is called Deep Water by Zoffay but have a feeling they may have discontinued. The Paint Library also have some lovely colours though

Thank for getting back to me and your feedback! I got a sample from downpipe colour from F&B – I thought it would be of a more lilacish and blueish hue as seen in many pics of your pad. Maybe it has to do with the difference of light in the two countries… Just got your book and I m reaaalllyyyy ancious to read it! Hope my place changes for the better and hope one day to attend one of your classes as I admire your work so much! Looking forward to your magazine! Be well, stay inspired!

The thing about downpipe is it takes on so many different hues throughout the day. Inky blue at night, a little lilac first thing it looks its worst in strong sunlight so if you live somehow hot I wouldnt go for this grey. Any of the other F&B colours I would Railings a beautiful inky black loves lovely, as does London Clay etc.
