Mungo isn’t a schnauzer!! Shock horror apparently he has been masquerading as one but it seems he is a fake. Maud to her credit had mentioned this when we first picked him up but I put it down to jealously. Now other proper schnauzers have rumbled him in London Fields no less. Not that Mung’s cares he just wants to chase balls but yesterday we were told quite succinctly that NO he is certainly not a schnauzer. What to do – I don’t particularly mind what I mind is the snobbery attached.
The same way I hate beyond hate the snobbery attached to interiors. Its funny how certain people want to conform (have the perfect dog, car, home) and others of us want to jump, skip and sling every teeny tiny conformist thing out. I have a car that won’t go above 30 miles an hour cyclists overtake us, a house that shouts eclectic with rooms still unfinished, hair that cannot be tamed no matter how much hair product goes into it and a mini schnauzer who is a bit of a hodge podge. Some people follow the Jones, think beige haze, furniture against walls, 2 possibly 3 lights in any one space. Others of us move furniture into the center of the room at the fastest rate possible, litter a space with lights 7 plus in the smallest of rooms, and god forbid paint rooms dark! Throw in some texture, pattern, ramp up the scale and wham bam you will have a pretty cool interior on your hands.

Hi Abigail,
I really wish you can add some classes in Los Angeles, because I would love to learn from you. You got some real skills…in Style! I have a question
I painted my walls the color of wet cement and the wood floors are dark brown grayish stain. I ‘m having trouble settling in a color scheme. So far i have rust color ottoman and pillows of red and green and black/creme. I tend to have hard time with these colors (My husband loves them). I love pinks, purples, blues, emeralds…Jewel tones. How could I develop a color scheme that can energize my gray surroundings? Phew and Oh is tweed like texture with color tones of oatmeal. Phew
I would say that you need to add some high voltage hues not many but some that literally pop. Jewell tones are great but in a dark scheme could feel depressing unless you use the odd bright hue (cuhsions. vases flowers that sort of thing). So saffron yellow, burnt orange, turquoise, scarlet, anything like that will look amazing. As for masterclasses in LA would love to its on my To Do List! x
Thanks so much Abigail!!! The colors you listed remind me of exotic Morocco or Turkey and that is a beautiful thing. So, this is really going to help pull my home together. Thanks again for your quick response. Hope to see you in LA real soon!
xo
More than welcome x
Of course not please feel free to use them x
So wish i could attend but live in Melbourne Australia – am in London on the 1st of March do you have a store I cold visit>

Hi Jo I do have a store address as follows: Atelier Abigail Ahern, 137 Upper Street, Islington, London, N1 1QP. Safe travels x

Dear Abigail. I too have now been pulled over to the dark side and have merrily attacked several rooms with downpipe, and yes they look fantastic! Thank you for inspiring me! Scary at first and my son couldn’t quiet understand where I was coming from and the words “not bloody grey again” where often heard! But we all love it now!
This year I am investing in replacing all my sash windows (apparently rot and decay are soooo last season!) I was thinking of having these and the front door painted downpipe too (yes Henry, more bloody grey!) did you do this on your own home and if so are you pleased?
Many thanks
Nicky
So so happy you love downpipe. For outside I painted it Railings a F&B colour but dark quite black. If you go to Selby’s website and plug in my name there are some images and a video of outside I think (wwww.theselby.com). Its even more beautiful than downpipe particularly for outside x
Thank you. Just checked the photo via The Selby……utterly drool worthy!
