Sorry for the lack of post yesterday it was an early one in the store as a 10 foot old looking (but new) pharmacy unit arrived with a zillion little compartments to house all our accessories in, so it was a big styling turn around kind of day in store.
It was also a big styling turn around day at home , that went late into the evening. When we should be painting, wallpapering and getting a little stressed over looming deadlines I was heaving heavy tables up and down flights of stairs, plonking in rooms, hating, taking to other rooms getting more and more disillusioned. The house looks like a bomb has gone off it there is stuff everywhere. This morning just after 5am I stepped over (and this was just on my way to get coffee in the kitchen) a moose, a chewed up bone of Mung’s as well as bashing into a silver pig! Not normal this house- the silver pig got the worst of it ‘ why don’t you just bugger off I think I may have shouted at him” Sorry pig it was early I was cranky (hadn’t had coffee yet) and there is to much to do in this dam house before classes begin its kind of overwhelming. I think I want to live in a caravan that way there is only so much you can do and this perpetual ‘this room needs more work, no but wait this room still isn’t good enough’ is driving everyone crazy!
Down to business, we have had a little cancellation due to illness for next Friday’s Design masterclass, 28th April which means there are now a few spaces available. So if you’re interested in learning about breaking the rules, fancy a relaxed but informative day full to the brim with hints and tips for how to create the most fabulous home that all the glossies will be fighting to publish then either call or email the store: contact@atelierbypost.com, +44 207 354 8181. There are only a few spaces left since our classes are intimate, so its on a first come first serve basis, oh and one more thing you will need to love dogs since Maud and Mungs will be hanging out with us too, I hope!
I can’t promise you the house will be finished but I can promise you I will be working dam hard over the next few days to get it looking the way I want it. Whether Maud, Mungs and G will be living in this house with me after these next few days is another matter entirely as they are all sick beyond sick of me!

I love your blog. Kisses Alla
Thank you x
They are so cute. Love dogsssssssssssss.
I love the idea of the pharmacy unit – a little drawer for everything is my idea of heaven! Hope your weekend isn’t too stressful!
i think you should post a pic of graham so we can see what the poor cherub looks like XXXXXX
Good point I must take a picture
busy times and furry friends are what keeps us alive, great blog, Hugh
Love the picture, they are soooo cute….. Do you know where to buy funky looking kitchen stools?? please let me know if you do, Tnxx!!
I wish I wasn’t so far away! Hanging out with your pups and you sounds amazing… learning new things would be nice too!
Best of luck with the rest of the transformation – I just know it will be amazing!
I’m also going through a decorating melt down at the moment as I’m renovating a Victorian basement flat and I’m only at the paint choosing stage!!
Very little natural light in the long hallway, do I still go dark? The panelled doors and skirting are white…do I paint out? The property is going to be let out when finished and although I adore dark I know it’s not everyone’s cup o’tee and could be too scary!
Have earmarked F&B London Clay for the bedroom (which gets good natural daylight), but again skirting, door and ceiling (with gorge rose and cornice) are white and unfortunately the window is white metal so can’t be touched. Would a white accent still work?
It’s such a lovely place and I want to do it justice. Not that you don’t already have enough on your plate at the moment, but a snippet of advice would be just fabulous.
And kisses to M&M – adorable and they rock in that photo! xx
If you can’t touch your window in the bedroom then leave all accents as white – white looks beautiful with London Clay I’m sitting in my London Clay bedroom with big white desk, white chair and coffee table. Regarding your hallway I would go dark but then you are letting it out and dark colours scare so many people. My sister who recently put her apartment on the market got told by estate agents to paint the whole place white (it was dark grey) as she wouldn’t be able to sell it. She ignored them and sold it pretty quickly but it just goes to show how so many people are against. Maybe try something in the middle that gives character – dusted moss by dulux is lovely (code no 1) its the darkest in the group but not so dark. Its a taupish kind of hue very restful and if you can yes skirtings doors and ceilings all the same colour the space will look alot bigger.
Thanks a million for the tips. Have checked out dusted moss and it looks like a perfect compromise…not scary at all and still has the depth I’m after. Saw pics of your sister’s place in the NYTimes and it was fab, not surprised it was snapped up so quickly by somebody who knows better. Estate agents are always a worrying breed, we would all be snow blinded if they had their way!!
hi abigail!
I was wondering if you ever thought of having an online class. I would love to be able to join your class if it was possible but I’m in Los Angeles. I think the impossible would be possible online for all your united states fans!!
I haven’t but thank you for the suggestion, I will ponder it and see if I can possibly fit it in
SO glad to have found your blog! I have long been an admirer of your large convex mirrors (one day!), as well as your design aesthetic, so it’s a delight to see you blogging about issues with your house like us normal folk! I laughed out loud at your ‘ perpetual “this room needs more work”‘ dilemma. My husband has closed his ears and eyes to my own constant titivating of our rooms – which I know will never end – the problem is I enjoy changing and adding things far to much!
Totally with you on the front, husbands don’t always understand but hey ho
My apartment is looking fab thanks to your inspiration, down pipe walls etc. Only prob is flooring with nasty laminate. Was thinking grey stone or polished concrete. What would you recommend? Julia
Either would be beautiful. Have concrete – actually screed on my floors at home and its looks beautiful with down pipe walls. It needs tons of softening with rugs but they add colour and pattern so it looks even more amazing.
Hi Abigail. Really enjoying your show on C4 at the moment and have been visiting your site. When it cuts to you montaging thoughts together at the beginning of the show there is a red floor lamp behind you which I have fallen in love with ! Is it v expensive? Where is it from – thanks for your help! Hilary
The lamp is by a company called Jielde I think its around the £550-£600 mark and they come in lots of different colours
Thanks Abigail – seriously impressed you take the time to help us all out with our interior design pondering on your blog – much respect to you!
It”s spelled damn not dam.
My blog posts get written between 4.30 and 6.30 each morning, on the fly in about 5 minutes so there will be tons of spelling mistakes. You will drive yourself crazy checking anything I write as there as always zillions of mistakes
Hi Abigail,
I have just found you and your dazzling style. I live in Australia so will not be getting up close and personal to any of your offerings any time soon. I hope to start using darker colours such as F&B Downpipe, however we have a lot of wood throughout house on floors, windows and skirting (1940′s) I am wondering if you have seen any particular colour work really well with reddish wood tones? I would appreciate any suggestion.
Warm regards
Lots of dark colours work well with Reddish tones deep dark greys, blacks, inky blues – Murobond do lovely hues if you can’t get F&B. Have fun once you convert there is no going back I promise
You are amazing getting back to everyone on here! So glad I found your blog! Yes F&b would be too expensive to have shipped I think. If you know of any amazing Murobond darks (to start the dark paint ball rolling down under) to rival down pipe etc, I would be all ears.
Thanks again Abigail
X
Haven’t used any Murobond before so you will need to swatch first but a few that catch my eye are as follows: Farrier, Boro 1, Bonesetter all Sybilla, Stones throw, slate shadow, Jason Grant. Hope that helps let me know how you get on x
Will do, thanks again
