Design School Launches Today

5.21 am,  been up and about for a good few hours but breaking for a coffee and a quick little chat with you guys. Forgive yesterdays lack of post we didn’t stop from dawn until dusk and although not everything is sorted its kind of there. Still have to whizz around with a hover, walk the kids, run to the store to nab a few things, pick up the cup cakes from Violets (best little cafe in the world in my humble opinion) and buy some bubbly but that as they say is it!

I won’t give too much away but today there is lots of fab things to discuss, from my top rule breakers that take a home to a whole other level, to cool furniture layouts, colour combos and lighting plans. We’re touring the house (hence the running around with hover), yabbering on how to create the perfect room and Gem my sister is giving her top tips on flowers, arranging them, making something humble from a garage or super market look amazing and also alternate vessel ideas to house them. So exciting!

My pad, a few more bits have been added since Todd Selby visited but it goes to show how a shelf from Ikea can look super cool when you accessorize with stuff you love.

Have a lovely weekend

    Hi Abigail

Really love your blog! Wish I’d signed up to your school :( maybe next year.
I just wondered your thoughts on what to put up on a patio door? It’s at the back of our living room – a wooden, period 2-door opening to the garden. I’d like something to hide from the neighbours but not block the light too much. A blind? Curtains? Hmm, what are your thoughts on curtains? I’m really stumped on what looks good and struggle to find any inspiring shots. If you could help, would be marvellous! Thank you

I’ve just brought some transparent roller blinds for quite a few of my windows. They let the light in but also filter the view, not blocking it out completely but blurring it quite beautifully and I love the quality of light that comes thru. You certainly could curtain it, Ikea do some sheer curtains which I brought for one of the homes for the TV show they are quite lovely as well. It all comes down to personal preference I am a bit more of a blind person then a curtain one but that is purely personal x

Dearest Abigail & the A Team, I Just wanted to say a Huge Thank you for hosting such a Fabulous Design School. All your hard work and little touches went into making it a really special day. So generous of you to share your home with us. We were truly blessed with such a lovely bunch of fellow creatives we ended up swapping numbers and ideas and even managed our first field trip to a certain shop in Islington! Huge Love from Philippa & her comedy basket.

Dear Philippa, it was my absolute pleasure. Loved the day, and you’re right a lovely fabulous bunch of creative women, we all feed off each other. I thoroughly enjoyed it. PS your basket is very cool, rather fancy getting one myself. x

Abigail – firstly I just want to thank you for all the inspiration, for being super generous with your yabberings and for showing me the dark side. I am so wishing I was attending your master class this weekend, it sounds amazing.
We have just bought a Victorian terrace and have taken the plunge, trusting your advice, and gone dark and it has really worked – more than worked, I am evangelical about it and would implore anyone considering dabbling in the darkside to go for it. We have painted the floorboards glossy off black, down piped all of the ground floor, dusted moss the stairwells and funnily enough we opted for London clay in the main bedroom which I absolutely love…you would be very proud.
I have never/ would never normally comment on a blog or bother you as I know you are super busy but my husband is insisting I ask you to stop me wittering on. Having painted the bedroom London Clay throughout I cannot decide what to put up at the window. Currently we have a white roller blind which is ok but the room is freezing (original sash windows) and its a bit Tales of the Unexpected, so I need to add more insulation and privacy. I love solid shutters, but to get them custom painted in London Clay is extra costly. The shutter firm do some F&B colours as standard – but none of the dark hues, of the small selection elephants breath looks ok as it has a pinky tone but I’m not sure as currently the only accent colour in the room is white (glossy white wardrobe). They also do a grey/black of sorts and a brown. Or should we go white? What would you suggest? Bite the bullet and go london clay…..forget shutters…I would so so so appreciate your thoughts. In huge admiration rx

    • abigailahern says:

Hi Rachel, my bedroom is also London Clay and you could easily go pale. I’ve got white transparent roller up at my windows and its a beautiful contrast with London Clay, Elephants Breath would also work. Wimbourne white if they do that is the softest of whites also by F&B would by cool too. So I would say either go London Clay or go pale I wouldn’t go grey/black or brown as it might merge and not contrast. Hope that helps and if its super costly I would go pale. x
