Every person needs a fabulous assistant never mind every room, where am I going with this you may ask well listen up. There are some items that help a room out big time (hence the fabulous assistant analogy) that rescue a room from being just plain old ordinary to turning it into something a little extraordinary. Spare chairs are one such item, recently talked about (remember to go odd and go different) and log baskets are the other helper outer. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have real fires because they easily double duty as storage; think papers, magazines, throws, towels , Mungy and Maud’s toys you name it.
No matter if your interior is traditional or modern, maximalist or minimalist a log basket breaks up the formality of a space with its warm welcoming persona. I’ve got them all over, by the fireplace outside, inside by the sofa, in the bathroom. If you’ve got anything leggy like a console bet you anything that a couple of log baskets underneath would totally soften the look. Not just that imagine how fabulous the juxtaposition – something sleek and shiny or antique and fancy with a good honest basket by it, visual friction at its most interesting. Also great for hallways (THE most neglected space in a house), or landings or anywhere that needs helping it – told you it was like a fabulous assistant.
An image below to illustrate said point, oh and if you can’t find cool ones do not fear in the Fall we will be stocking some amazing ones! That’s it from me, next week will be slightly more sporadic as the odd day starts at 5am but I will do my best to get some posts out. It feels so strange when London is in fever pitch with the Olympics to be leaving the city, never mind if you’ve gotta work you’ve gotta work. No getting around that.

Have a lovely weekend, I’ve got a fairly crazy day but then something fabulous, a facial at Shoreditch House at the very end which is a heavenly thought. Can’t be going to NYC without glowing which according to the facial info I should be doing!
Speak next week. xx

Hi Abigail
Sorry unrelated question, but I’d love a post on sofas. I love George Smith but my budget won’t stretch that far unfortunately. Any tips on styles that work and last, plus tips on where to pick up would be much appreciated! Thank you
Good point I will try and remember, nudge me if I don’t.
have a great time, hope you have time to do some shopping while your there, and yabber on about all thing fabulous ans of course look fab in your new shoes.
Thank you
Thought I was just eccentric having log baskets all over the house so thank you for revealing method in my madness. You can’t beat them for adding instant cosiness even if there’s no fireplace in sight. I’ve started draping large bunches of long stemmed silk tulips across them to add much needed colour and have a miniature palm in another. Safe flight to NY. My first purchase from AAA arrives today (black ostrich table) which I plan to accessorize with a dark blue glitter table top and customised light.
Thank you, hope the ostrich arrived safely and looks fab, you wouldn’t believe how many I’ve got all over the house.
Have a great time Abigail. Look forward to hearing all about it.
Enjoy your facial and have a GREAT time in NY!! Stun them with your iconic fabulous quirky English style
PS Love your blog, look forward to it every day
Thank you very kind of you to say
Hi Abigail, being the genius of the non conventional that you are, I feel I can ask your oppinion on something I am thinking about without thinking I am mad! I have a small flat with a fairly large living room and a medium bedroom , and I am thinking of changing the bedroom into a living room an viceversa, reason being I feel having a big bedroom where I can cozy up on saturday mornings in front of the fireplace – which of course is in what is currently the living room. Plus I prefer cozy and small living rooms where you feel more relaxed and “cocooned” if that makes sense. What do you think? Are there any considerations / boundaries to have in mind when you want to use a room for let´s say a different porpuse than the original one? Many many thanks and congrats! xx
Hi Rebecca,
You can totally change things and swap things around without worrying. The only thing I would say is layer the living room with as as much stuff as you can. I tend to find one of the biggest mistakes is that people stop decorating rooms that are small to early on feeling less is more when, actually its the other way round
i love all the details this room Iis there any way to see the rest of the room?
Afraid not, can’t quite recall where I came across it I hate to say
Really inspired me. Gentle, beautiful and little bit exciting to try it for my room…..
