Forgive the lack of posts my end, we nearly didn’t make it to Australia – a 42 hour travel time from London (won’t bore you with nightmare of it all) meant we nearly didn’t make the first class! Brushing all that aside our last few days in Melbourne have been over whelming I have had the best time, everyone has been so lovely and made us feel so welcome. Thank you so much to all of you who attended the Melbourne class, such a friendly chatty group of people as passionate about design as me. The best thing it was so interactive with everyone pitching in, sharing ideas, stories, questions it really makes teaching the most enjoyable part of my job.
Thank you again to all those who attended, we were blow away with your warm hospitality, the sad part we didn’t get enough time in Melbourne, hey ho next time.
Sydney class today and tomorrow, cannot wait xx
Hi Abigail, I have just found you and spent the last two days eating up all your blog articles and interior tips and feel truly inspired to revamp and go dark. This is probably not the right place to post and appreciate you’re super busy on the other side of the world right now, but if you at any point get a moment to give guidance that would be amazing. So, I’ve decided to start with my living room. I have just had some super comfy golden, yellow linen sofas made and am thinking of going with London Clay (I want a warm dark and just visited your shop this afternoon and loved the colour). The thing is, we have an antique Louis Philippe gold gilt mirror on our mantelpiece which has always stood out so well against bland, white walls. Will it get washed up against this colour? I also know I need to invest in good lighting. Any tips on where to go for a mix of lamps and what colour shades would go well with London Clay?
Hey first up don’t worry about your mirror anything gold and gilt against any dark colour even more so London Clay will stand out and look fabulous so it totally won’t looked washed up in will infact do the opposite. Yes you will need lighting typically (sounds scary) at least 6 or 7 lamps which can include one pendant, maybe a floor lamp and then lots of little decorative table lamps. Sources I use all the time are thefrenchhouse.co.uk (beautiful vintage) fandango.com, Atomic Antiques in Shoreditch high street and Two columbia Road. New lamps, try Conran, West Elm (a USA company but they ship) Anthropologie, Debehmans and actually B&Q when I did the TV show I found tons from there which were cheap. Vintage places any flea market run by DMG (so Ardingly or Newark) have lots of inexpensive lighting as does Kempton a flea market in London every other Tuesday.
Good luck you won’t regret it promise
Aw, bless you. Thanks so much for your detailed reply. Sooo appreciated. Yes, I really must get myself to a flea market and I’ve heard great things about Kempton. Just need to find a buddy to take the day off work and come with me. Went to Anthropologie for the first time yesterday on your advice and bought so much stuff. Thanks again. It’s amazing how much time you dedicate to responding to all your comments.
More than welcome
Abigail, it was so lovely to meet you you yesterday in Melbourne, you were as I imagined, really beautiful and so very natural. Considering your ‘nightmare’ travel experience to get here, it didn’t show and the class was so enjoyable and fabulous.
Thank you thank you so kind
